How the life path number is calculated

Reduce the day, the month and the year each to a single digit or a master number (11, 22, 33). Add the three results and reduce again. That is method 1, the one most numerologists publish and the one this site uses. Method 2 adds every digit of the date in one row; it gives the same answer most of the time, and when it does not, the difference is always a master number.

Day
14 → 1 + 4 = 5. A day of 11, 22 or 29 (2 + 9 = 11) stays a master number.
Month
7 stays 7. November (11) stays 11.
Year
1992 → 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21 → 3.
Add and reduce
5 + 7 + 3 = 15 → 6.

The worked example above is the default date in the calculator, so you can check the arithmetic against the table. The article on how to calculate your life path number works six more dates by hand. The editorial approach page sets out every rule the site uses, once, so that the same date gives the same number on every page.

Questions people ask

Why do other calculators give me a different life path number?
Almost always because they add every digit of the date in one row (method 2) instead of reducing the day, month and year first (method 1). The two agree for most dates and differ when a master number appears in one and not the other. This calculator shows both, so you can see which the other site used.
Is a master number better than a single digit?
No. The tradition reads 11, 22 and 33 as their base numbers 2, 4 and 6 with more asked of them, not as a higher rank. A master life path is rarer and, in the tradition, harder to live up to.
Does the time or place of birth matter?
No. The life path uses only the calendar date on your birth certificate. Time zones and birth times belong to astrology, not numerology.
Can my life path number change?
No. It is fixed by your date of birth. The number that changes each year is your personal year, which this page also shows once you enter your date.
