In short
- Meaning
- The opening year of a new nine-year cycle: the slate is clear, and whatever is begun now is read as setting the tone until the next 1 year
- Theme of the year
- Starting, deciding, acting alone, and the energy to do all three after the clearing of the 9 year before it
- How it is worked out
- Reduced day + reduced month + 2 (for 2027), reduced again. The calculator does it, and the 2027 article explains the universal year.
- Best response
- Start the thing. A 1 year rewards the first step and punishes waiting for a better moment
What a personal year 1 means
The nine-year cycle starts here. The 9 year before it cleared the ground, finishing what was finished and letting go of what was over, and the 1 year is the empty field. The tradition reads a personal year 1 as the year of beginnings. New work, a new place, a new relationship or a new version of an old life, started on your own initiative and carried by more energy than you have had for a while.
Its digit explains the reading. One is the digit of initiative, independence and going first, and a 1 year is that digit stretched across twelve months. The number 1 page describes the digit. This page is about the year.
How to know if 2027 is your 1 year
Reduce your day of birth and your month of birth to single digits and add them to the universal year. 2027 is 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11 → 2, so 2027 is a personal year 1 for anyone whose day and month add to 8. 7 January is 7 + 1 + 2 = 10 → 1, and 6 February is 6 + 2 + 2 = 10 → 1. 3 May is 3 + 5 + 2 = 10 → 1, and 9 August is 9 + 8 + 2 = 19 → 10 → 1.
The calculator does the sum for any date and shows the working. This site turns the year over on 1 January, which is the commonest convention. Some numerologists count from your birthday instead, and the two methods give the same number for most of the year.
What the year tends to bring
Numerologists describe the shape of a 1 year consistently. Early on, restlessness with a point to it: ideas that have been waiting since the 9 year’s clearing start to look possible. Through the middle, action, often alone, because a 1 year is read as the year people stop asking permission. Towards the end, the first results, small and real, and a sense of having set out.
What the tradition warns about is the shadow of the 1: impatience, going it alone when help was available, and starting too many things. The advice is to start one, maybe two, and give them the whole year.
A 1 year in love
The tradition reads a 1 year as a year of independence, which cuts both ways in a relationship. Single people are told it is a good year to meet someone, but a better year to work out what they want first, because a 1 year’s energy is self-directed. People in relationships are told the year can feel lonely for the partner, since the person in the 1 year is busy beginning, and the advice is to start something together so the beginning is shared.
A 1 year is not read as a year relationships end. That is the 9’s reputation. It is read as a year they are tested by distraction.
A 1 year at work and with money
Work is where the tradition expects a 1 year to show. It is read as the year to start the business, apply for the role, pitch the idea or go freelance, because the energy for first steps is higher than it will be for the rest of the cycle. Money in a 1 year is read as outlay rather than return: the year you invest in the thing, not the year it pays. The 8 year is the harvest. None of this is financial advice, and a 1 year’s optimism is exactly the condition under which people overspend on a start.
How to use a 1 year
Three pieces of practical advice recur in the tradition. Decide what the cycle is for, since what you plant now is read as the theme of the next eight years. Act rather than plan, because the 1 year rewards the first step and the 2 year that follows is for the patience.
And do at least one thing entirely on your own initiative, without waiting to be asked. The year after is the 2, where what you started needs time and other people. The personal year 2 page describes it, and the personal year 9 page describes the clearing that came before.
